MAKING YOUR HOME WORK FOR YOU
If working from home full time is your new normal, do yourself a favor and stop working at the kitchen table! Carve out a small but functional work space for yourself, your partner, or the school-aged kids in your household. Follow along with these four simple steps for creating a home office:
FIND YOUR NICHE
If you don’t have an entire spare room to dedicate as a home office, no problem. The space doesn’t have to be large to be functional. Find an unused corner in the living room, guest room, or even your bedroom. It only needs to be wide enough to fit a small desk.
TAKE A SEAT
Scroll Facebook Marketplace or your favorite local thrift store to find a used desk. Look for something compact that will fit into your designated office niche (and also in your car to bring home!). Add a comfortable chair, a back pillow, and a small task lamp.
KEEP IT SIMPLE
To keep the potential for clutter to a minimum, keep it simple. Use floating shelves, a small bookshelf, or a rolling cart to store items that you use on a daily basis (headset, pad of paper, pens). Store less-frequently used items in a nearby closet. Maintaining a clean workspace will free your mind for pleasant productivity.
ADD SOME WHIMSY
Use vibrant tones and stimulating patterns to make your new workspace inviting and inspiring. Start by choosing a color that will complement the rest of the room, then paint a colorful arch or mural. For an integrated, seamless look, take it one step further by painting your new (used) desk in the same color. Add fun abstract artwork like the print from manifestjess.com, and some low-maintenance succulents.
