Charlottesville is known for its rich history, picturesque landscapes, and, my favorite, the ice cream.
We are fortunate to have a nice array of ice cream shops in the area….
Chaps Ice Cream:
- Located on West Main Street, Chaps Ice Cream is a Charlottesville institution. Since 1979, they have been serving up hand-dipped ice cream in a charming retro setting. Chaps prides itself on using only the finest ingredients and offers a variety of classic and unique flavors. From traditional favorites like vanilla and chocolate to indulgent options like bourbon pecan and raspberry truffle, Chaps has something for everyone.
Moo Thru:
- Now located at Dairy Market Central, this family-owned creamery is known for its farm-fresh ice cream made from milk produced by their own herd of Holstein cows. With flavors like creamy vanilla, sweet strawberry, and the ever-popular cookies and cream, Moo Thru’s ice cream boasts a rich, velvety texture that will transport your taste buds to pure bliss. Don’t miss their milkshakes, which are thick, creamy, and simply irresistible.
3. Crozet Creamery
A short trip from Downtown Charlottesville, Crozet Creamery is worth the trip. Crozet Creamery makes their flavors in small batches by scratch, daily, using only the finest of ingredients. They offer a variety of flavors, including dairy free options. If you’re looking for more to enjoy, Crozet Creamery even offers flavors in pints to take with you.
La Flor Michoacana:
- If you’re in the mood for something unique and refreshing, head to La Flor Michoacana. This Mexican ice cream shop on East High Street offers an enticing array of exotic flavors and traditional treats. Explore the tropical tastes of flavors like mango, tamarind, and coconut, or try a delicious paleta (fruit popsicle). With its vibrant atmosphere and delightful flavors, La Flor Michoacana provides a delightful departure from traditional ice cream experiences.
When it comes to finding the best ice cream in Charlottesville, these local establishments offer a plethora of flavors and experiences that will satisfy even the most discerning ice cream lovers.
